Everything is fixed and uh.
Hopefully what happened this morning with the servers and Whatnot Won't.
Alright, looks like Carol's in here. Let's see if.
She's able to, um, I can see she's in 'cause I can see participants. So let's see if she's able to broadcast video.
Lilani and I are still community hosts.
Awesome, I uploaded the slides know in order to see them You have to be the one who's clicking control slides, but you should be able to. Hopefully you all know the order that you want to present and each person is done. You can just kind of retake control basically of the slides.
Yeah, so Carol, Why don't you take control now 'cause you're you're gonna be first, right?
I don't remember. It remains at work and I would look at him really quick.
Let's see I I can hear him.
No, I didn't really quick, so about the different degree programs that it's me.
Yeah, maybe each persons we can't see the upcoming slides. Maybe each person can be like and now I'm gonna turn it over to lay Lonnie who's gonna talk about her so that we know, like, Oh, I should make take control of the slides now.
Introduce ourselves at the beginning.
I think they say Joe where you going to introduce us?
Yes, so right so at four I will introduce a do a quick introduction. I'll do a actually do a quick welcome. We have a lot of people. This is actually going to be the largest faculty web and R that I think they're offering. You have 70 people logged in Woodbridge.
You told you we don't. You let people come to the pre health in BIOS I said.
Yes, well this morning again students are so interesting. This morning we had 28 which I was like. OK, that's normal. Like we've been getting between like 20 and 30 for all the Department ones. And then I looked after lunch and I was like, oh we're at 70 alright students. I guess of course you're going to register, so that's exciting. And what's for us? At least on our end? Even more exciting is that of the 71 two 3.
1112 thirteen 1415 sixteen 1718.
So it looks like other 70 around 30 of the people who are attending are deposited students.
So starting him will be people who hopefully you see.
Why is it so? They should all be, um, be people who are in your your classes, so 30 of them it looks like have paid their deposit or their positives currently pending, so it takes like three or four days to process so either paid or they started the payment process and then the others are just regular admitted students.
And then how long did we were going to try to keep a presentation to like 1520 minutes or so? And it is that we were thinking.
I don't know did we have a time limit? I just kind of put the slides together so I don't know.
I believe we wanna keep um.
Keep the whole thing under an hour. So yes, I guess is if each one of you stick to 10 or so minutes then that will leave, specially 'cause we have the more guests we have, the more questions you were gonna get. So specially things were beyond our normal like 30 people.
You, um, yeah, if we can stick to 10 minutes each. That way we have plenty of time at the end to kind of get get through some questions that people may have about.
About the Department. About the fall. Since we have both admits and deposit, my thinking is the questions might vary. Some will be just very general in terms of admitted students who just want to know general information about the Department and then for some of the admin it. You might get some more kind of.
Um, specific questions, but I was looking through your slides and I do think they do a great job of breaking down like the different degrees and things like that. So I think for some of those who have some specific questions and what I know about classes are wet, not your slides kind of address some of that, so hopefully quite a few questions will be addressed by the presentation. And then we'll still have a good chunk of time leftover to really get to the Q and a portion.
Did you were you able to send out the those documents? The FAQ stuff?
Yes, so the two documents that Lisa sent um Reagan so an hour before the session begins, they get an update, a kind of a reminder email, and so she just attached it to that email.
So if they check their email, they should. They should have been there. Um, that the two. Yeah, the two documents that was sent on this morning.
Yeah, so anyone of us can actually kind of pass along. We all have the same access in terms of the control of the slides.
Yeah, so I think someone suggested earlier. I think that's a great idea of just verbalizing. Alright, handing it off to Lisa or handing it off to never just. So that way since there's multiple love us, we know kind of. Oh, let me get control and kind of move around as needed.
Oh no, they can. Once we go live they can see whatever slide you have up. So right now if we were live they would only see this first slide. This beginning won the biology, improve health profession so you don't need to share screen as part of your you selected the slide that you want to talk about. That's the only thing they can see.
Sorry for my wiggling, I was just plugging. I realized my laptop wasn't plugged in, so I wanted to make sure it was charging.
They see our videos at the top. They don't see the bottom that has. You know, showing sliders, blank slides. They just see our videos. They see what ever slide you selected in the chat. So the slides are awesome. A little bit larger for them as well because they don't have this bottom bit. That's like taking space.
I know I just I just pulled like the PDF that I had emailed you guys. I pulled it up into another window in case I can't like read the font.
At the very top warehouse, right next to setting for half the four little arales. If you fat, it might make it a little bit bigger for you. It's still not fully, you know, the full screen, but it's it's easier to read if your presenter. If you click the full screen then if you.
Alright, let me see that I so I was kind of uhm.
Yeah, I don't know, um, and I'll. I will also let the students know if they click full screen. Depending on how small they minimize your window. Also let them know if you can't see the slides. Click full screen. That way it's taking up your entire computer versus.
No, a smaller portion so they can read the writing on there, especially there on a phone, don't want to hit screens that way it takes up a bigger picture of the phone.
So we we have a little bit of time 20 minutes who anyone is to go. I'm going to step out and go to the bathroom.
I would say maybe leave your broadcast on just I want I don't want anyone to log off or log on. Leave it on, but if you need the UM, step out the room for a second. You want to grab some water or plug? Know that that's fine. You can see at the top where it says event scheduled to start. So as long as that now is going, they cannot see us or hear us. It's not until that gets to 0 at.
Students can see it, so we have a second. A bit of time to disappear for a second and.
Oh good and Reagan fixed it so everyone except for me, everyone says faculty now.
She was like that's weird so she didn't update. So yeah, I will be right back. I'm gonna go get water and go to the bathroom. Um and yeah, and probably also get a plug for my computer 'cause it is also not plugged so I'm gonna do the same.
Well, there you put in your kind of the Queen of running down the battery to the last last percentage.
Yes, now I'm plugged in. It says full.
Yeah, I had that happen one day too.
I'm actually multi tasking right now. I've got one more exam degrade. I'm hoping I can finish.
Did Bella actually have covered or pneumonia, right?
Almost finished cleaned up.
I was like I should turn away, it doesn't matter. They can't smell me.
This is a positive through all of this. I don't have to.
Got sweatpants run in the bottom.
Hopefully will not ever get that technology.
Yeah, and I'm glad I have an office.
For sage all having to do this in her bedroom, she has to make her bed.
I met him but I just have a corner where you can't see anything.
Your your parents, right?
So that's still going well.
How did Natalie like the school?
The problem is, is that, UM, like there's lots of lots of different rooms in our house, but some of them have kind of dead spots for the Wi-Fi an my dad and I am just saying, and now we're all trying to do online school, so, um, trying I was on Webex this morning. Well now he was trying to do her Google meet with their class an like dropped out on her like 5 times and.
Trying to in like the Wi-Fi is strongest in my parents bedroom, which isn't ideal. So anyway we're trying trying to figure some things out. I'm going to try to order like a super long Ethernet cord so that we could like plug it into the router and then bring it out to the living room or whatever.
But I I looked at one on Amazon just really quickly and it was like will deliver by May 7th or something.
Anyway, the suffer now like the English language arts stuff. She's totally fine and can breeze through, but she is never enjoyed math and trying to ask her to do it by just watching Khan Academy videos and doing worksheets is not ideal.
Yeah, so it was a, uh, not liking the voice on the math video. I don't know which one it was. She's like the voice is like nails on a chalkboard.
That's why I suggested to her that she did or not.
But she they gave him a couple weeks worth, but they said this is what you should do Monday. Tuesday, it should I do it almost like node. Do it as you go and then it's not so bad.
You're just stressed out better.
Yeah, we still have not completed the Mondays Work an that is involving tears at this point, so I'm kind of like OK. If it doesn't get done. Whatever, I don't know.
I'm reading this exam where they have limited time to do it.
It was opened the cover note, but independent.
And some of these working it's sounding really similar to what I read already.
Is it? Is it from your notes? 'cause sometimes I've done that. I've been like, oh, I think they're cheating on each other. And then I realize like it was in the lab manual and they're both using eleven annual really closely.
No, I would not have written this.
Oh God, I don't know, yeah.
Yeah, it's time for the couple questions, but it's like it's not the whole thing and I don't remember what it was. I just remember like why would they write that and then somebody else like almost the same.
It's like, not really right.
Yeah, I went back and I graded the one who was like my top student first to kind of see what he could do.
And then I created. Everything else is and then I went back and re examine his and I actually ended up creating his a little bit higher because nobody else came close to what he had.
So I was like OK, I need to be a little more generous.
You can tell you can restrict it on Moodle to say it will only accept certain file formats.
OK, I'm going to go get myself cleaned up a little bit.
You got 8 minutes be quick.
I'm just gonna brush my hair and.
OK, what did I do? Let me make sure I can find you guys again. Oh there we are OK. I've got two screens that I was minimizing and OK, I'll be back in a minute.
So sage all, have you been on like slate all day? Most the time? Or what are you? Is it driving you crazy?
I am definitely having to remind myself to take breaks so I don't. I wear glasses for a reason. I need to like give my eyes breaks because yes, normally our day would be broken up with appointments and actually seen people and so now that we're not between being enslaved, setting thing, emails, webinars we really are. It's very easy to look up and realize oh it's three o'clock.
Same spot, just like you know, type away.
So yes, I've gotten better and.
Putting in like reminders in outlook, so I get the little pop-up satellite move for a walk.
Yeah, I thought I already got a lot of emails getting like even more emails. Now that's the main way to to communicate.
Since it's not quite so easy to just, you know, pick up the phone and dial an extension or whatnot. You don't really know.
If Jabber is working or phones or whatnot so.
Yes, a lot of time looking at the computer.
You are done this week, right finals are done.
I'm missing, I don't know. Sometimes I live in Rancho Cucamonga, so sometimes the weather is a little bit different where I am versus like in Redlands. I'll be like it's raining here and they'll be like it's sunny. But anyway, it's really. I thought it supposed to be kind of sunny ish this week but looking out my window it looks like.
It either either will or is about to rain like it in at the moment. So I have been missing the sunshine because when it's sunny here it makes it even to.
At least go for a walk or sit outside and kind of waiting to my neighbors.
Oh yeah, did it apparently, but I was in the bath.
I'm just waiting for my God. I need the sun back.
We definitely sound like Southern California people.
It is the some awful. I mean there's a reason I chose to live in Southern California.
I know the way I just keep telling myself we need the rain come down beneath the rain but.
Yeah, definitely. Being and being inside um, an like the excitement of the day was like my 4:00 o'clock walk. And now like even my walks had been taken away from me. So um in my complex I can tell.
Kids are getting even more friendly now where kids are honest balconies like Hawaii. Just volunteer random information about themselves and I'm like, Oh, they're getting tired of being inside.
Like every case, is talking to any random stranger like you just see him yelling at people. Hi, what's your name?
And the parents, just like we don't.
My kid is unlike social distancing patrol, so if we go on a walk and you know there's a neighbor somewhere over there she's like don't get close like it's OK and we're still like 20 feet away it's alright to wave.
The walks with the dogs I like favorite part of the day. It's like that's the one nice thing. If we take the dogs in the whole family, you know Shane and Zoe myself. We all go with the dogs.
And I think the dogs actually loving this because, like we're around all the time.
Well, that's good. Your cat likes you. I keep saying all these means about cats and dogs being tired of like their owners there like when are you leaving?
Right, so where it looks like our countdown.
It's going to end soon. There's no like I wish they could put a sound or a flash. Something to know that it's over, but once it gets to zero we just start broadcasting and you'll see the participant number. Just jump.
All right, welcome everyone. This is my favorite part. I'm going to watch the numbers just kind of increase as students slowly but surely Logone so welcome everyone as you're logging in is excited too.
See everyone join us will get started in just a few minutes. Just going to give everyone a little bit of time to log in and kind of get situated at the video.

Hi, my name is late money stone and I'm a professor in the biology program. My only interest focus on marine ecology, specifically marine mammals, but I teach a variety of classes, including the first semester biology, an upper division class in comparative animal Physiology.
And a variety of other divisions. Um oftentimes focused on more of travel courses in field work.
So what I want to talk about it with some of the characteristics that I think really make our biology program stand out, and one of those is the major. And what other schools often refer to it as an interim term, but essentially in May, students can take just a single class for the month of May, and that means they can really go in depth into a particular topic and we have on campus courses during May.
Hum, for example, one course that's being taught this year's molecular biology of disease. It's an upper division class where students can really investigate the literature in more detail and learn more applied information. Another one is a professional development so students can learn more about different options in the biology field with a lot of guest lecturers representing alumni who got into different career paths. And then of course we can view.
Travel courses in May and I teach a number of the travel courses. In fact, a couple of these pictures are from once I taught the picture on the bottom probably recognize the Glop Agos I taught the course a few years ago, and then for the last number of years I've been leading the course where we travel to Palau. That's the picture of the person snorkeling, actually doing a clam restoration project which was really cool because we got to go into the Secret Lake that was hidden and you had to crawl through a tunnel to get there.
And so that course focuses on marine sustainability and for that course, for example, we learn about not just the marine wildlife and the ecology, but also about the culture and the history and the economics to try and understand the issues really from an interdisciplinary perspective.
So may term is one of my favorite things because it gives students a chance to really.
Jenna Day
04:13:27 PM
Wow, that is awesome!
Delve into a particular topic that they're interested in and the huge variety. Of course, instead offered across campus. And of course in other majors as well.
Another aspect that is important for a program is the opportunity to do research. So doctor forestall already talked a little bit about the senior research, which again is a core part of RBS program, but it's also an option for any students, including those from the BA or Johnston.
And with that research, along with summer research opportunities, students get to really do the own project. In some ways, it's almost like doing a mini Masters degree. Not quite as involved, but you get the experience of developing a project from the beginning, working through all of the challenges of figuring out project design, collecting the data, and then actually analyzing and presenting the data.
The end students will do a written thesis along with the presentation.
And students oftentimes will say that you know before hand that kind of maybe a little bit nervous about it. But then after they do it, they feel like that was one of the most important things they've done and the most rewarding because it's something that they really have a lot of ownership of.
Joy Flint
04:14:57 PM
Hi ! I'm Joy from India
Students can also do a summer research program which we are very fortunate. We have an endowment, which means that we can pay students to do research in the summer with a faculty mentor.
And students do a variety of projects. It varies from year to year depending which faculty are working with summer students. But that could include projects with our colleagues who do research on things like cell division or autism or field work with restoration ecology or the work I do with looking at human impacts on marine mammals.
And we also, unfortunately we have connections with Loma Linda University, which is a world class research University, very close by. And we always send some students there to do research on projects like looking at what influences pre term birth and trying to reduce that risk.
Charlotte Hecht
04:15:52 PM
Hi I'm Charlotte from Palm Desert California
And those students present for the summaries which they present posters at the end of that project, which is one of the pictures you see here.
Janet Rayo
04:16:02 PM
Hi! I'm Janet and I'm watching from Los Angeles ,California!
So really, our program is very student centered. Um, we're all faculty at the University of Redlands because we want to teach. We want to work with students. That's one of the things that we love about our jobs. So as was mentioned, we're the ones teaching the labs. At many schools, those graduate students, TAS who teach the labs and or sometimes even undergraduate TAS. But having the faculty member actually running the lab means that you get to know your faculty in a much.
Listen um basis. They get to know you understand your strengths, can work with you when you're struggling or help in terms of writing, letters of recommendation or help out. If those issues like health issues and making accommodations.
Sayjal Waddy
04:17:13 PM
Hi Everyone, welcome. Thanks for tuning in!
We work closely with students through the research. Many of us are also involved in students, clubs and other activities where we get to know the students outside of the classroom, and so there's a lot of interaction. In fact, we're having a sort of commencement ceremony this week where we were going to present sort of the degrees to each of our graduating students, and say a little bit about them. And that's going to be a fun opportunity to show more insight on battle students to their families.
And I think that's all I was going to cover, but I'm happy to answer my questions about that later. But I will pass this on to doctor Lisa Olson.
Hi, I'm Lisa also and I'm the chair of the Biology Department. My um field of research is on the neuroscience of meditation. So essentially, how does meditating affect your brain in your body? So it's been a really interesting time with all the stress that all of us are under to be able to share with some of my students about how stress effects the brain and your body and some of the ways that we can mitigate that with stress management techniques.
Uhm, but I teach a variety of things in that Physiology rum, but as well as molecular biology and genetics, which I'm also trying to teach in as well.
Uhm, I wanted to talk a little bit about our health professions, pre health professions advising program. So it's connected to biology because all of the faculty in our Department are also health professions advisors. So what that means is that we can help you strategize and think about your time in college to prepare you for the types of careers that are listed on this slide. So if you have a lot of people might think of premed and we call it pre health professions because there's so much in Madison besides just going to medical school.
Including lots of things on this list so the ones that have stars next to them are things are starred because they are degrees that you can get at a bachelors level, like you can get a bachelors degree in nursing so that after four years of college you're ready to go off and be a nurse. and I put stars here because we don't actually have those bachelors degrees. So if that's your primary interest, we just want to make sure that that's really clear up front that you're not going to come to the varann in four years. You'll be ready to be a nurse. Now you can come to the U of R.
And take courses that are preparing you for Graduate School in those fields and we can help you think about that. And think about what courses are going to be best fit for you to go into a nursing program, for example. But it would be something that you would pursue after the University of Redlands. Now getting a four year degree at a liberal arts institution really prepares you for a breath of life experience. And so we still think that that's a great idea, but we just want to make sure that it's clear that it's not like you can. We don't have, for example, kinesiology major as a bachelors level, which some schools do.
Iliana Perez
04:19:50 PM
Is the pre speech program under this presentation or another?
So we always want to be up front with that, but of the variety of things on this on this list, we can help you think through what courses you would need to prepare for going to Graduate School in those fields. And a lot of those courses end up in the Sciences.
Iliana Perez
04:20:26 PM
Ok, thank you!
And so that's why there's so much overlap the speech program. I just saw that in the chat on there, so for communication Sciences and disorders we that's kind of under its own umbrella because they have their whole own Department, and so they do their advising for that. So I won't be talking about stuff for speech therapy in this presentation, but we have a lot of students who are kind of they come in, and they have an open mind about what might they want to do. They want to do something clinical, they wanna do something in the health field that might be speech therapy. It might be something on this list, and so.
It's we help a lot of students figure out what that eventual plan will be, so that's one of the things we do is help Freshens Advisors. You might not even know what are some of the things on this list, like what is optometry versus midwifery versus something else? And we can talk about those things.
Natalie Nguyen
04:20:46 PM
Can you please also talk more about the linkage program for pharmacy?
Sayjal Waddy
04:21:10 PM
We are planning a session for Com Dis
I'm here so one of the things we always want to emphasize is that you don't have to major in biology to have a career in the health professions. You can actually major in anything on campus, so we actually think it's a great idea to major in something that you would consider us through your kind of secondary career interest. So if you're interested in Madison, but you're also like wow, I'm really interested in public policy or French or business or something like that, or psychology that you could major in those things as well as preparing for a career in the health professions.
Sayjal Waddy
04:21:36 PM
stay tuned for more information about that Illiana
Because being pre health, that just means that you're taking the courses that are required for a graduate program in that field and you can take those courses in context with any major. So we help students during pre health advising. Figure out what major is a good fit for them. Sometimes it's a biology major if they're kind of. If students are kind of like interested in Madison that if I didn't do medison, I might want to work in a lab and do biology in the lab that a biology major is the would make sense. So sometimes it's biology, sometimes it's not.
One of the things that sets our pre health program apart from other schools is that we really emphasized one-on-one advising. So when you come during orientation, you'll be assigned that big session for anybody who is interested in the health professions and at that meeting when you sign in, you get assigned a faculty member who will be your pre health advisor and that person is committed to meeting with you at least once a semester to talk about how things are going, how your classes are, what you should be taking next semester, what other kinds of things you should be doing to think about your career at this point.
Sayjal Waddy
04:22:23 PM
We hope to have the Communication Sciences and Disorders session available next week
Whether that something like volunteering in a clinical setting, shadowing, making Contacts with some of our alums who are in these fields to figure out what might be a good fit for you and so those are one on one conversations, whereas at some other schools the pre health advising might be just one big giant meeting with 200 people in a room. For us it's very personal and we're talking to each individual about what makes them interested in Madison, what their strengths are, and what's going to be the best fit.
So as uh, when you get in to be more into your junior and senior year, pre Health advisors also help you with things like thinking about when you should take the M Cat and how you should prepare the M cat being like the kind of things that you have to take to get into medical school or the other kinds of tests who you should ask for letters of recommendation and things like that. and I want to echo a doctor still said about students that are programmed like ours. Being good for letters of recommendation. Because when I write letters I can really describe a student as a whole person. You know I have seen them.
Probably in a couple of classes. Sometimes those students have been, um, um helpers for me in my research or with other courses. Sometimes they've been babysitters for my kids. Sometimes we've worked together with a student service project and so I really know my students very well and having a personal letter recommendation that's very detailed is one of the things that is special about the you are, I think.
We have a variety of volunteer opportunities through our community service office. Give me service as a requirement at the U of R and they have ways that you can do that in a medical setting so that early on. If you're interested, you can volunteer at Loma Linda's Children's Hospital as well as some other programs for kids with medical needs, and so there's ways that you can combine some volunteer work with your interest in the health professions.
So you can like I said, you can be pre health in any major. I'm including a biology major other ones. But we also want to mention that there is an interdisciplinary major on campus called Health Medicine in society, which is of interest to a lot of students who are interested in the health professions. So this particular major is not meant to be all of the prereqs to get into medical school. That's not the purpose of it and in fact, it won't. If you got this major that doesn't mean that you have fulfilled all the prerequisites for medical school.
Jesika Ayala
04:25:10 PM
Can you have an emphasis on pre-health and double major in Biochemistry and HMS?
So, for example, organic chemistry is required to go to medical school, but organic chemistry is not a requirement for Health Medicine in society major, so you still have to do that kind of planning. But what this major is, is it looks at health from a lot of perspectives, not just the science perspective as you guys have. I'm sure I've been following the news with COVID-19. You see that health is impacted by so much more than just the biology of it. It's impacted by policy by economics, by race and gender.
Caryl Forristall
04:25:25 PM
yes, it's possible
Jesika Ayala
04:25:35 PM
Oh okay thank you!
Connor Rudolph
04:25:42 PM
Does the pre-med track fulfill most, if not all, of the natural science concentration of the HMS major?
Um, by People's religious background, right? So there's all these different kinds of things that are going to intersect with health, and this is a major that helps you think about all those perspectives. So the way HM S Works is there's an introductory course seminar, and then you pick an area of emphasis and then two areas of electives, and I'm going to show you those areas on the next slide. You also take it has to take a statistics course and then integrate it into the program required with the program is for you to do a service project or an internship in a field of your interests.
And so that's that. Program is set up to help you find those internships, for example.
Caryl Forristall
04:26:12 PM
yes it does
With a junior and senior seminar to help you integrate everything so those areas of study are listed below, there's natural science medical humanities person in society policy and management in global health and just some examples of what kinds of courses would fit into those categories or listed. There's more, but these are some examples so you can see that the first column would actually overlap a lot with a biology major. A lot of these courses are ones you could take for a biology major.
Sayjal Waddy
04:26:23 PM
we have a session that looks at COVID 19 from an interdisciplinary perspective next week and the director of HMS will be on that panel
Connor Rudolph
04:26:31 PM
Awesome, thank you!
Caryl Forristall
04:26:49 PM
the physics is not there, but there is otherwise a large overlap
And but the other ones are again these other ways of thinking about health. So stuff like bioethics and history would be in something like medical humanities person in society. You're really thinking about psychology and family dynamics, race and gender, and how these are going to impact health for policy and management. Huge things like that are happening right now in recovering what the government is doing to manage the code at 19. Crisis, for example, would be examples of public policy and thinking about the economics and how that's intersecting with health.
And then global health is really broadening the perspective to think about other countries, including development, developing countries. We've had some matron courses that have gone to places in Africa, for example, looked at the aids crisis, looked at other cultures and how that impacts health. So again, in the HM S major, you would pick one of these as an emphasis and two as elective areas. An emphasis. You take 5 courses, elective areas you take 2 courses each. So again, this is not required to be pre health or pre Med.
But it's a nice compliment to it, and students can pretty easily move back and forth between majors. So you could start afas biology major, switch to HM S or vice versa. Sometimes you can combine majors and minors, for example, so I like this flexibility and this interdisciplinary way to think about health.
Sayjal Waddy
04:27:54 PM
many students double major or do a major and minor and it's easy to do so in 4 years
So that's what we had just for our initial slides to give you kind of an overview, but mostly we want to spend much of this session answering your questions, so I think you're encouraged to type questions into the chat box and will go through an answer. Those as we go.
Jenna Day
04:28:22 PM
I want to pursue in the veterinary medicine field, what path should I take?
Yes everyone uhm. So I think we got a lot of great information. I know some of you started asking questions, which is awesome. I'm going to just pose a question. Two are three faculty. Just to give you all time to type your questions. I know it takes time to think and format it and type it. And so wow, we're giving students time to type in questions. If all of you could maybe share what's been one of your favorite kind of moments as a faculty.
Or maybe share a Watt? One of your favorite classes is to teach.
Jaquie Adler
04:28:47 PM
Are we allowed to minor in something that isn't apart of the science department as a second interest and not combine the two?
Fernanda Perez-Alvarez
04:29:01 PM
Are there programs for first generation students or minorities interested in pre-health?
All right with a favorite class. Just because it's been a fun when I've taught in the last few years called neuroscience of meditation. Because it's interdisciplinary and it's one of the things that I love about being at a small liberal arts school is having connections with people in other departments. And so I started researching meditation in context with a faculty member in religion and a faculty member in psychology many years ago. And now I teach this course that really integrates all those things. An one of our field trips is to a Buddhist monastery in Los Angeles.
Sayjal Waddy
04:29:10 PM
keep the questions coming.....
Where they are gracious to allow us to participate in an entire days worth of activities at the monastery, and so my students are doing that while thinking about what's happening in their brains while they go through these various activities. And it's just fun to think about science from lots of different perspectives.
Joy Flint
04:29:26 PM
As an International student what should I take ?
I would say to my my favorite ones each are.
The ones that are able to more interdisciplinary, uhm.
Starla Murillo
04:29:40 PM
Is there a specific list of minors that HMS students should take? I was thinking about double majoring in Pre-health and ASL to have a degree in ASL interpreting and to become an Athletic Trainer or PT
Gilbert Smith
04:29:45 PM
I am re-applying to the United States Naval Academy next year, what classes or major should I start taking next year?
Specifically, probably for me, the Palau major. Not surprising, it's pretty amazing place to go, but one of the things I really like about it is that I learn so much each time I go. And then each student has a different perspective and I get to know the students so well because it's only a small group of us, maybe 12 students traveling together. You know, doing all of spending all of our time together, so I get both that student interaction and each time I go it's a different experience. Even though I've been multiple times.
Sayjal Waddy
04:30:02 PM
Hi Joy, your graduation requirements would be the same as everyone else
Alia Khatib
04:30:22 PM
I was looking up transferring AP Exams and it stated that the score depended on the department, if I wanted to transfer an AP Biology exam what score would I need and what classes would that cover?
Connor Rudolph
04:30:37 PM
Does the philosophy major complement the HMS major well?
Megan Littlejohn
04:30:40 PM
If I major in HMS with a minor in spanish, is study abroad still possible?
Starla Murillo
04:30:44 PM
Would the HMS program be a good program to enroll in if we wanted to go to graduate school for Athletic Training?
Alexia Renteria
04:30:49 PM
What degree do you think would be most beneficial for continuing an education in med school
Alisha Moreno
04:30:50 PM
I plan on going for the HMS major with pre-health emphasis because I want to become a physician assistant. Would the HMS program be the best one for my profession?
Awesome, so I think that if we gave them time to type into some questions and so I'll kind of start at the beginning of and this is actually a common question that we get. But what you could talk what you would share with students were interested in veterinary Madison and kind of what that process will look like. Would they be part?
Of kind of the pre health tracker. Just what does that advising look like for students who are interested in that field?
Remi Plascencia
04:31:29 PM
I want to pursue a career in Dermatology what path would be the best
Yeah, prevent health because it is a health field and I would say the one difference is that because of the requirements for the vet school, most students who prove that do the biology major just because it will apps even more so there's more required courses, biology courses for prevent the number for pre MD it's not required, it's pretty common.
Ashley Noerr
04:31:54 PM
Which major would be best if I want to be a PA?
The research experience is really useful for that students, even though it may not. Some schools may not count it towards the hours that are required, but it's something that seems to really benefit those students, and we've had quite a few go on to that nary school. One of my research students, it's now just graduating this year from. That's cool, so that's really fun to see.
We have a lot of success with that.
Ashley Franjic
04:32:14 PM
What career path do you think would be best to take to finish in 4 years at redlands and start working after?
Izzy Samaan
04:32:26 PM
I want to pursue a career as a surgeon or a family physician what path would be the best?
Yes, and Jenna know we also have a minor in human animal studies. Again, not a full major, but depending upon your interests, that would be something I know. Many students will add that to the biology program and that combination kind of.
Charis Alexander
04:32:33 PM
How will Pre-Med majors change if Redlands is unable to continue on campus next year?
Tends to help or I know a lot of known a lot of students who done some sort of combination of biology and Environmental Science and kind of that combination is another common one as well.
Natalie Nguyen
04:33:04 PM
Can you please emphasize more about the linkage program for pharmacy? Since we don’t need a Bachelor degree to apply for Pharmacy school, how would our classes be different from regular pre-health student?
And then we have a few questions about majoring in minoring. It looks like double majoring, and so if you could just talk about the process of if you want to double major or with major minor, what that looks like just this wiring for those who are joining us. Unless you're part of the jobs in our music program, you have not been admitted into any particular type of program. So no, that first year students come in is undecided for the most part, and so you have time to explore and figure out.
Kylla Lafleur
04:33:26 PM
So is it possible to get the requirements for med school just w a HMS degree? I want to be an orthodontist and not sure what path to take.
Anthony Luis
04:33:29 PM
Molecules Biology is a Double major?
What combination of programs and tracks makes the most sets so that the majority of your probably not connected to a major you come in and decide it you have time to declare and then if you want to talk about that process and.
How realistic it is for students to be able to major in biology or in one of the Sciences and something that is completely unrelated? Yes.
Alia Khatib
04:33:58 PM
Are we supposed to be hearing Sayjal Waddy?
Yeah, I'll take that so, um, I think it's really important to emphasize website all said about that you have time to decide, so you're not required to declare a major until the end of your sophomore year. And in biology we actually don't let you declare a major until you've taken the first introductory two courses in biology.
But the idea that you should check it out and see if you like it an if it's working well for you before you declare something. So we think having flexibility in the beginning is really important so that you can move between potential majors that you might be interested in.
Leilani Stelle
04:34:18 PM
Yes Alia, can you hear everyone?
Sebastian Brown
04:34:22 PM
Biology Alum class of 2016 here... happy to answer any questions related to student/classroom experiences etc. Dr. Forristall was one of the BEST professors I had on campus!
Sayjal Waddy
04:34:28 PM
Hi Fernanda we have 1st gen programming available for all students
Caryl Forristall
04:34:40 PM
Hi Sebastian!
We definitely have students who double major and Carol didn't mention this, but we have. When we we thought through the BA versus the BS program, you might be thinking like, well, why are these two different degrees and the idea is that the BS gives you more depth in the Sciences, but it has a little bit less wiggle room in terms of taking other courses where the BA degree allows you, it gives you more time and flexibility to pursue things like a second major so the BA degree is really a perfect fit for that to think about. If you want to do a major in.
Ayleen Rodriguez
04:34:49 PM
How common is it for a student majoring in Biology or other sciences to be able to study aboard?
Alia Khatib
04:34:51 PM
I cannot hear Sayjal Waddy, but I can hear everyone else.
Anthony Luis
04:34:55 PM
Sorry couldn’t hear what you said Sayjay
Fernanda Perez-Alvarez
04:34:55 PM
Thank you!
Ashley Franjic
04:34:58 PM
Could you explain the one slide with the stars on some of the career paths?
You know business or psychology or something else that the BA is actually quite feasable to fit both of those in. It's definitely possible to do a BS degree with a minor doing a double major. I mean you can be super planned and fit everything in perfectly and it might happen.
Elena Salazar
04:35:10 PM
I can't hear Sayjal Waddy but I turned on the captioning and I can read what they all say.
But again, that those are decisions you don't have to make right away. For the most part, you're taking all the same courses, whether you're doing any of those science degrees, and so that's something you have a personal conversation with your advisor bad, but what's the best route for you?
The other faculty wanted.
Leilani Stelle
04:35:21 PM
Stars just mean that we don't offer a bachelor's degree in that field (such as Nursing)
Sebastian Brown
04:35:35 PM
If you cannot hear someone try refreshing your browser
Ashley Franjic
04:35:43 PM
thank you!!
Sayjal Waddy
04:36:10 PM
Sorry if you can't hear me. You can try refreshing or put on the closed captioning
I will also say that, um, it's fairly common to do a double major with HMS so HM S Plus Psych or HM S plus by or something like that. But what you want is your area of emphasis in HM S to not be overlapping with your major, 'cause there's limits on how many things you can double count. The idea being if you just take the same set of courses, you shouldn't get two majors out of that, right? So that you can double count some things but not the whole thing. And so in general, if you're going to be a bio major and double major in HM S, then you're emphasis in HM? S is one of those other things, not natural science, but.
Global and global health or policy and management or whatever, and that works out pretty well.
Ashley Franjic
04:37:02 PM
What bachelor degrees do you guys offer that is most popular among students ?
Yeah, so yeah, there's I think that was a great explanation 'cause there's a lot of questions about different combinations of major, so I'm seeing a lot of different people wanting to do different things and so.
Some of these are very specific and so no, that everyone has an admissions counselor. If you're a transfer student then Kylie Molder is the one who works with you. For everyone else, we do it by geographic location and so if you want to be just kind of flesh out your ideas with someone about all of the various combinations that you're thinking of, we'd be happy to do that in a more one on one session, but no, but for the most part you can do a lot of different combinations, something people want to do.
HM, S in Spanish and HM S in philosophy and this and that and so know that all of that is fine.
What combination you choose to do is based on what you're interested in and based on what you want your next step to be. So whether it's it's again biology, a minor and HM S or environmental science or or, again, whatever combination that you want to do is really based on what makes the most sense for you and make sense makes the most sense for your given interest, and whatever the prerequisites are.
For those of you who are thinking of I CPA school I see people wanting to be dermatologist, so I'm seeing a lot of people have typed in.
Alexia Renteria
04:38:32 PM
Can you elaborate on the volunteer work Loma Linda has to offer and how it works?
Natalie Luna
04:38:48 PM
What opportunities are there for Optometry?
Pharmacy things like that, and so again what what potentially additional classes. You take as part of your major is gonna really depend upon what the graduate schools that you're applying to want to see and speeding up a pharmacy if what, if I don't know if any of you have a bit of information about maybe chemistry or some of the programming pair. But I think sometimes people. Forget about kind of Pharmacy. In those programs. I don't know if anyone if you can maybe talk about.
Sebastian Brown
04:38:57 PM
Ashley the most popular degrees are in Business, Biology, Environmental Studies and Psychology
But that might look like and maybe collaborations with other science Department. So with chemistry or with environmental science or math, or some of the other things, yeah.
Yeah, I'll mention I'm glad you brought up pharmacy, 'cause I didn't say anything about it, but we have linkage programs with both Western University and Graduate Institute, their schools of pharmacy that either have preferred admission or early admission for pharmacy programs at those schools, so that if you got a degree from the U of R that there's a high chance that you be accepted to those schools of Pharmacy at those institutions, and then we are working on a linkage program at Western University in Podiatry.
That would that would be similar. Uhm, so those are some pathway programs that we have from our institution.
Ashley Franjic
04:39:55 PM
Awesome, Thank you Sebastian!
And then I see a clarification question from Anthony that wanted to know if the molecular biology program, if it's a double major, I think because of the name and so you can maybe just clarify that for the students.
So it it used to be that you would have both degrees on your diploma that you got a bachelors in science and biology in a Bachelor. Science and chemistry. Just this year we've made it so that it's an interdisciplinary major, so it's biochemistry molecular biology. It'll be one major with that name, and that actually just starts with A.
That made it actually here to get um, because it's really hard to fulfill all the requirements for both major. So this actually makes it more feasible to get.
Anthony Luis
04:40:27 PM
Thank you!
Sebastian Brown
04:40:28 PM
Natalie I would be happy to chat with you 1 on 1, we have a Redlands grad Class of 2018 who is at one of the top optometry schools in the country
Starla Murillo
04:40:52 PM
For the HMS program since there are stars next to programs such as Sports Medicine. Would we major in HMS with an emphasis in something else or would we just major in HMS?
Ayleen Rodriguez
04:40:56 PM
thank you!
I'd like to add to that too. I am very involved in the study abroad program and advising students and there's so many great opportunities for students to study abroad for a semester, and sometimes they can be in programs that contribute to the degree. So you can take courses for biology, some of them even can focus on health programs, and other times students just go somewhere.
Lisa Olson
04:41:18 PM
Natalie - re the linkage programs, you would take the same courses, but you can get preferred admission or early acceptance to the pharmacy schools
Just to have the experience of being abroad and maybe satisfy some of the general Ed requirements, but I have had a number of students have done a BS degree, got in a minor in something else that spend a semester God, and then the stool. You know, in the squished on the schedule, because if they go in planning for it, you can make it work very well.
Natalie Luna
04:41:36 PM
Yes! I am definitely interested! My email is n456luna@gmail.com
I'm a big proponent of study abroad. I think it's a great opportunity.
And let's see, there was another. Where did you go?
It may be one if you elaborate on the work with Loma Linda Ann, what process would be like if someone comes in and they want to do work there or maybe at Redlands General Hospital? But yes, if you could talk about what that process but look like for us to be in coming in.
Well, it depends on if you're talking about volunteer service uhm or like a research experience. So if you're going to if you want to volunteer in a clinical setting to fulfill a community service or just have volunteer experience, that would either be through our community service office or we have specific clubs on campus that are doing volunteers.
Volunteering in those settings. Uhm, so we don't. We the Biology Department doesn't have a lot to do with that through the community service office. But then for the research experiences at Loma Linda, we have a process of kind of applying to say you're interested in these particular laboratories and the research that they're doing. And then you interview with a faculty member at Loma Linda, who we worked with for a long time to have that kind of joint experience where you have an advisor at Redlands and the advisor at Loma Linda to do your research experience.
Anthony Luis
04:43:04 PM
Can those linkage programs help get into The Graduate programs Sebastian?
Sayjal Waddy
04:43:13 PM
Hi Starla, depending on what you're wanting to do post graduation would depend on what combination of majors and minors you put together
Sayjal Waddy
04:43:43 PM
we also have a minor is Physical Education and Athletics that some students will combine with Biology or HMS or Psych
Starla Murillo
04:44:05 PM
Oh okay, thank you
And I actually have a question, one that was posed a little bit earlier and emailed. I know we've been talking a lot about Health Sciences in different combinations, but if you could talk about some of the other types of research or concentrations that students have focused on within the Department that have nothing to do with the Health Sciences. So for example, I know we have a lot of VA students were getting their teaching credential, so I know the conversation about the Health Sciences.
Kylla Lafleur
04:44:18 PM
what majors and minors stand out to med schools?
Also, have oftentimes dominates the conversations, but I know that we have lots of other students were interested in other things, and so I just don't want to fight. That was one thing that popped into my mind.
And just want to make sure that that that students are aware of some of those, those other kind of common things that people might do with a biology major other than go off into some sort of graduate program in some sort of Health Science Program.
Not health person, although I teach the Physiology class uhm?
Sebastian Brown
04:44:59 PM
Yes, anyone interested in Athletic Training, Physical Therapy, Sports Medicine etc. I did the BA in Biology with the physical education minor and loved it!
So we have we really actually value the breath of our Department and that students are not all pre health and that that's not the only thing they're going to take. And we are. Curriculum reinforces that. We want to make sure students understand the overview of biology, not just one particular focus.
And so we have faculty who are do more work in ecology, animal behavior, and then we have things that might, you know you could relate to health but have not directly so a lot of work with genetics for example, or understanding cell cycles. And we have courses in all these fields. And then of course we have research opportunities as well and so.
Many of our students I would say a lot of students start pre health and many times they find something else that gets them really excited. We have one alarm who comes back and talks to our students and our senior seminar and he tells a great experience of how he came in. He was empty focus. That was what he was going to do. He even consider anything else he did. the BA. He avoided research and then he volunteered and worked a little bit in the medical setting and.
Enjoy it but wasn't loving it. Went into teaching for a little bit. Liked it but didn't love it. Winter graduate program that he thought would help him get into Med school and discovered a passion for research and clinical research sleep.
So the biotech type of work. And then he's been very successful in a career in that field and it was never his original plan. But he had the experience from this degree that he was able to build on it and learn the skills he needed.
I think we've gotten through. I know, uh, we answered some questions, kind of in combinations when there were questions that were similar, but students. If you're tuning in, if you did ask a question earlier that we didn't address full free type it into the chat, I'm doing a quick scan and I think we've addressed in some way of many of the questions 'cause a lot of them were very similar in terms of double majors or combination of things for Graduate School.
But if we didn't address your question, please type it in the chat. Or if you want clarification on maybe one of the slides. Want to see that again, type that into the chat so that way we make sure that we get you the information that you like.
I'm also know, um admissions counselors and Whatnot are available. If some of you want to talk through some very specific questions, we can kind of let you know what all is out there and what might look at what might workout for you.
Sayjal Waddy
04:48:00 PM
Other questions?
I also thought a couple of the ones on the screen that I might address just because they're pretty common that I don't think we got one that yes, the vast majority of our students graduate in four years, so that's something that is the typical plan at our school is that you get done in four years and many of our students are very active and extracurricular activities, so we have.

How would AP Exams and other such credit transfers work?

I believe we addressed most of the questions but if we missed yours please type it into the chat
We have a lot of science majors that are also athletes an have the demanding requirements of practices and games and meats and things, and they're able to combine that and they continually impress me. And so the Var is really neat. I think in that the academics faculty are very supportive athletics and the coaches are very supportive of the academics, so we have a really good relationship with that. At the U of R.
And I think we mentioned the other ones on there, but you should have also gotten a FAQ sheet in your email with the invitation to this that addresses some more questions as well.

Is there specific-designed Or more geared Biology or Pre-Health Study Abroad Programs and if so what are they?
Oh yes, I I thank you. Aaliyah for re typing in your question. Um she wanted to know about AP exams and kind of how transferring credit works in and. So if one of you maybe want to talk about that specifically for the Department and then I'm happy to explain transfer credit evaluations and just kind of the general process.
That happens with the registrar's office with AP and IB credits.

Sure, so for for the UM, a biology major. Uhm, as was mentioned before, there's two introductory semesters. Get of your first year of biology. If you get a five on the AP exam, you can wave both of those semesters and basically jump into the second year of biology. If you get a four on the AP exam, you can skip one of those semesters, and which one you skip would be in consultation with me as the chair, based on the topics that you feel most comfortable with.

What has been the most successful career path that many students start working after graduation?
Leilani Stelle
04:49:50 PM
Anthony, yes there are programs that focus on health, some that focus on field ecology, or ones where you pick and choose courses of interest. Many different options!
Um, if you get a 3 on the AP exam then it fulfills your science requirement for general education for the University, but it doesn't fulfill requirements for the biology major, so ES3 on the AP exam does that. Some students choose to just take anyway, even if they got a high score. You're welcome to do that, so that's usually a personal conversation you have with me as the chair. To see what's going to be the best fit for you.

Will Redlands accept AP exam scores this year despite the changes to the test?
So yeah, I think and know that on the University of Redlands page if you go to the registrar's office page and I can look that up and type it into the chat, but they have kind of reviewed IB and AP credits and so there is a form on there that you can look up not just for biology but for.
Any AP or IB classes that you might have taken and you can go on and see for see what scores required and then you can. It will also show you how that supplied so it will let you know if it fails a general education or if you simply get activity credits for that so you know that that is online for a be an for IB. If any of you are in a running start or like a middle college program, anything like that we're taking actual Community College classes.
So whether or not you get credit will depend upon if it was a full time academic class.
And if you got to see your higher.
What will happen is if you decide to commit to Redlands, we will get everyone's final high school transcripts, and if you're transferring any credits from community colleges or if any of you are transfer students when we get that final.
Lisa Olson
04:51:26 PM
Charis - I haven't heard anything about not accepting AP scores this year.
Transcript with your college credits that get sent to the registrar's office and they do an evaluation where they look at what you've taken and kind of figure out which requirements it meets some classes you've taken might fulfill general education classes. Some might fill major requirements. It simply depends on the class, the score to credits and again depends on whether you're a transfer student. We have some different things in place, especially if you did I get see or if you're doing an ADT.
How those credits transfer will look different than if it's just kind of one off classes that you took here and there, but do you know that we will do an evaluation?
Of a PIB Community College classes. But we will look at what you've taken and will make sure that you get the appropriate credit. Depending on how the Department and the registrar's office assigns credits.
And then I think will honor you. Kind of already addressed this. But Yes, Anthony are wanted to know more information about study abroad. Or maybe a few more examples of matron classes that deal with.
But yeah biology or are pre health.
Yeah, so I text this brief response. But yes, we have some extra programs we have. I don't know hundreds of programs that students can go on, so those and they fall into different categories. There are some that basically you go to another University and you just pick classes that they offer so you could take organic chemistry if it's matched with the.

Same material, I wouldn't miss Lee. Recommend that, but you can. You know if you need specific classes, we have those programs where you go and you take all of your classes as a cohort and a number of those on kind of Field Ecology and research. And there's also some like that that are focused on the health fields. Some of the most common ones for pre health students really want that experience is as one in Denmark and those some in South Africa.
That both have a real strong health component and then also wanted London.
And then there's one kind of mix of the two where you have some courses that are sort of predetermined, and once you get to pick and choose.

So when students are interested in doing a semester abroad, what we always recommend as they talk to the advisor or talk to somebody else. And of course talk to the office of I'm sorry. Study away is the term now to investigate the different options and look at if they want to take courses for the major number, which things would satisfy based on you can decide ahead of time this class will account for this requirement so that you can plan ahead.
For May term, the course is the travel. Courses vary somewhat from the sun that tend to be most years.
So doctor crew group does the one that was mentioned earlier that focuses on more like global health.
And those lot there's a number that focus on more of the ecology. So In addition to the one that I teach, that environment studies office or studies Department does one in Panama and it does a lot of GIS mapping.
Doctor Malcolm subgroups teaches one that goes to like Tanzania and.
Basically, the beginning of the year, all the travel costs, programs will do kind of affair and you can walk around and see pictures and images and kind of see what's being offered and then look at what you be most interested in taking.
And the great thing was, a matron travel courses is they don't count towards your um free may terms because you all students get to that are free. No extra tuition. But the travel course is the only thing you have to pay for is the actual travel component. You don't have to pay for any tuition for that.
And there are some scholarships that you can apply for to help with that as well.
And that May and semester. There scholarships for this semester as well. Semester basically is built in except for airfare, but those scholarships you can apply for it also cover airfare and other incidental costs.

Since the class sizes are small, do they fill up quickly? If so, how does this affect students who are unable to take it?
Addressed everything but again, if if we if you type the question in.

Hi Ashley, there are many different career options. Some students get their teaching credential and BA and start teaching after graduation. Some go onto medical school, vet school, ect, Some students go into PhD programs. Some go into non-profit work....
When we say that you know you might not be able to take the course that you want this semester, you might need to wait another semester. Typically there's another course that you can take this semester, so it's not like you have to put your biology degree on hold. Your just taking something in a different order so we have some flexibility in what order you take things in order to make that work. And yeah, like it anywhere. There's going to be some courses that are much more popular than others, but then there's other courses that still have room so you know sometimes people have to be a little bit flexible, but their first choice versus second choice kind of things.
Uhm, but in general, UM in general were able to accommodate people with what they need.
Janet Rayo
04:58:17 PM
Thank you!
Yes, I think something to remember us as we will work with you to make sure that over the course of your four years you take what you need in order to graduate. But realize taking what you need is different than taking what you want. and I think sometimes they here like for your prom promise in no impacted majors and they think like, oh, that means I'm going to be able to take exactly what I want when I want to take it and know that that's different than making sure that you're progressing through the major.
I think as a whole we do the job of making sure that people of course progressing through their major. But you know, there's that one really fun elective that everyone wants to take. That is not a requirement for the major. If you don't get into that that very semester, that is OK. That is not at the top of our problems. That is not at the top, but yeah, we do a good job of making sure people get what they need in order to move through. But sometimes that might mean again being flexible in terms of when you take certain classes.
And being willing to take classes at 8:00 AM or on Fridays, right so?
Like right now we have. There's a wait list for one of the sections of the courses I'm teaching in the fall and there's the 11:00 o'clock section. Has a wait list, but like the 9:30 is still open or something like that, right? So you have to just be flexible, like which professor together, which time you go to.

Yes, I'm always free. Mindful of that when when I get get emails and people asking about things and usually when I press in, I'm like that's not the same thing. You not wanting to wake up in the morning. You didn't get exactly the afternoon option versus the earthy option. That's not a Redlands issue. That's that's that's different.
But any last questions we are getting close to the one are we are at the one hour mark and so for those of you who kind of continued through the Q&A. Thanks for for staying and listening.
But are there any other questions before we kind of wrapped things up? I want to be mindful of your time, especially for those of you who are tuning it from the East Coast. And of course our faculties time. They're doing exams and grading papers. And so if you do have any last questions, this is your time to get get them in. Otherwise we will wrap up soon, but no. But if you think of questions later or again for those of you who have some really specific questions about your interests and what combination of.

there is also a student panel coming up on the 16th from all STEM students!
Joining us and I have a question for you Lisa. Before we close down with you, feel OK if we included these slides in our follow-up email.
Yes, 'cause I could see UM students wanting to to look at the different classes from the BA versus BS for sister that I think there's a lot of great information on there and so.
Right, but we can just said that they don't have to make any decisions right now. That's the kind of conversation that have. Once they get here with faculty members. So there's no decisions they have to make right now.
Yes, so yes. Reminder you do not. You're not part of the school of science is you are not connected to any major at the moment. You can comment underside it, but I think the slides a lot of really good information and so awesome. So now if you're still in, if you haven't locked off yet, will include it in our follow-up like thank you for attending email in case you want to spend some time just looking at it on your own.
And just to read, although you don't have, you don't come in with a major you do. You can have an advisor from the biology program right away who will help you in navigating that. So although you may not be cleared major, you can still meet with us and get all the guidance.
Alright, and so with that we can all unbroadcast our video and then I will close the session down and goodnight. Enjoy dinner.
